Common Questions

Is this whole turmeric or an extract?

Whole organic turmeric root, ground — not a concentrated extract. It naturally contains 5–7% curcumin, higher than typical supermarket turmeric but well short of a 95% extract, which is a different product made by isolating curcumin out of the root. We keep the whole root, blended with organic black pepper, because that's how turmeric has traditionally been taken — nothing stripped out, nothing added. If you specifically want a high-percentage curcumin extract, this isn't that; if you want real organic turmeric to fill your own capsules, this is it.

What size capsule should I use, and how many will one bag fill?

Most people use size 00 — it matches the capsules sold in shops, so it's a familiar amount per capsule. As a guide, a 325g pouch fills roughly 325 at size 000 (the largest), 500 at 00, or 650 at size 0 (the smallest, a little easier to swallow). Bigger capsules mean fewer to take; smaller ones are easier to swallow but you'll take a few more. The 650g simply doubles the counts. Filled caps before? Use the size you already like — the powder works the same in all of them.

How long does a bag last, and what does it work out to?

It depends how many you take, but as a rough guide: at a couple of size-00 capsules a day, a 325g bag (about 500 capsules) lasts most people several months, and a 650g around twice that. On cost, a 650mg size-00 capsule works out to about $0.08 to make yourself — pre-made turmeric capsules generally run $0.26 to $0.34 each. You're paying for the turmeric, not the bottle and the markup.

Does it come with capsules? What else do I need?

This is powder only. To fill your own you'll need empty capsules — gelatin or veggie — and most people use a small filling machine to do a batch at once (you can fill by hand, but it's slow).
